Keene State Wins Battle of Owls 8-1

            KEENE, N.H. 4/17/08 - The Keene State College baseball team extended its winning streak to a season high seven games with a 8-1 victory over Westfield State in Keene on Thursday afternoon.

            The 19th ranked KSC Owls improve to 20-5.  The WSC Owls fall to 16-9-1.

            Keene State took advantage of a pair of four run innings in the game.  In the second, freshman Tyler DiPrato (Suffield, Conn.), sophomore Beau Darak (Londonderry, N.H.), junior Jeff Perkins (Dunbarton, N.H.), and senior Joe Rousseau (Nashua, N.H.) came through with run-scoring hits.

            A fourth run sixth inning featured an RBI single by Perkins and a two run single down the right field line by sophomore catcher Anthony Cipolla (Glastonbury, Conn.).

            Westfield State's run came in the second on an RBI single by sophomore Terrence O'Brien (Scituate, Mass.).

            Perkins and Cipolla, and Ryan Jones (Nashua, N.H.) had two hits each for the Owls, who finished the game with 11 hits.

            Senior Justin Parr (North Attleboro, Mass.), sophomore Mike Trachtenberg (Newton, Mass.), and junior Scott McIntyre (Bristol, Conn.) collected two hits each for WSC.

            Junior Aaron LaPlante (Charlestown, N.H.) picked up the win to improve his record to 4-0.  He gave up eight hits over 5.2 innings with a walk and a strikeout.  Sophomore Rob DelBueno (Trumbull, Conn.), freshman Mike Murray (Clinton, Mass.) and senior Jamie Chevalier (Amherst, N.H.) also saw action on the mound.

            Freshman Joe Green (Worcester, Mass.) took the loss for Westfield. He gave up seven runs on seven hits with a walk and strikeout in his 5.2 innings on the mound.

            Both teams return to league play on Saturday.  Keene State hosts UMass-Boston in a Little East doubleheader and Westfield State travels to Bridgewater State for a MASCAC twinbill.
