KEENE, N.H. 4/24/08 - Keene State hit for double figures
again, collecting 14 hits in a 17-5 non-conference baseball victory
over Fitchburg State College at Owl Athletic Complex on Thursday
afternoon.
Sophomore first baseman Beau Darak
(Londonderry, N.H.) continued his hot-hitting with two home runs
and five RBIs. Freshman leftfielder Bobby Doyon
(Keene, N.H.) also belted a three-run homer.
#14 ranked Keene State, winners of 12 out of its last 13 games,
improves to 25-6. Fitchburg State falls to 8-19.
The Owls, who have scored 10 or more runs in 11 games this
season, had five runners cross the plate in the first inning.
Darak had a two-run single to center and junior second baseman
Jesse Cahill (Cranston, R.I.) had an RBI double.
KSC added four more runs in the third, Darak, belted his first
home run of the game and freshman catcher Tyler
DiPrato (Suffield, Conn.) had a two-run single to left.
In the fifth, Doyon hit his three run shot giving him four
homers and 34 RBIs on the season.
Darak, who finished with three hits, connected for his second
round-tripper of the game, a two run blast to centerfield in the
eighth. After getting off to a slow start, he now has six
home runs and 36 RBIs this season.
"I was seeing the ball well all day," said Darak. Coach
(Dan) Moylan has been helping me with my
swing. I've shortened my swing and it's been working."
Moving to the leadoff spot, senior shortstop Ryan
Jones (Nashua, N.H.) had three hits and scored four runs.
Starter Aaron Laplante (Charlestown, N.H.)
improved his record to 5-0 with the win. The sophomore transfer
from Wentworth Institute went five innings, giving up two hits with
three strikeouts and no walks.
"I was feeling good and throwing strikes," said Laplante. "My
fast ball was great and I was keeping it down. It's been a good
move for me coming to Keene. I love the guys and team and the
style of play."
Sophomores Jameson Wentworth (Peabody, Mass.),
Matt Boyd (Hooksett, N.H.), and freshmen
Corey Vogt (Broad Brook, Conn.) and Mike
Murray (Clinton, Mass.) all pitched an inning of relief
ball.
Falcon pitchers issued 14 walks in the game. "We did a
good job of taking the pitches that weren't strikes,' said KSC
Coach Ken Howe.
Keene State returns to Little East play on Saturday with a key
doubleheader at Southern Maine. "Southern Maine always battles,"
Howe said. "I expect a battle on Saturday."
