Box Score KEENE, N.H. 9/6/08 - After scoring just one goal in its
first two games of the season, the Keene State men's soccer team
erupted for seven goals in a 7-0 non-conference victory over Husson
College at Owl Athletic Complex on Saturday.
Senior forward Alex Horne (Harvard, Mass.) led
the Owls (1-1-1) to their first win of the season with three goals
and an assist. "I feel we needed a game like this," said
Horne. "We worked the ball around and created a lot of
scoring opportunities. "This is definitely a starting
point."
Sophomore midfielder Luke Sisco (Pine Plains,
N.Y.) also netted a pair, his first two college goals, for KSC.
Keene State got on the board at the 4; 22 mark of the first half
on Scott Cluff's (Kingston, Mass.) second goal of
the season. Horne headed the ball ahead to Cluff, a junior
midfielder, who beat Husson goalie Miguel Dominguez (Caribou, Me.)
with a shot to the far corner.
Sisco made it a 2-0 game four minutes later off a corner
kick.
Dominguez kept it s a 2-0 game with pair of nice saves off of
Ross Stanton (Bethlehem, N.Y.) and Cluff.
The Eagles didn't have a shot on goal in the first half.
After missing several scoring opportunities earlier in the game
Horne finished off a crossing pass from senior back Stephen
Attardo (Braintree, Mass.) to give KSC a 3-0 lead 43
seconds into the second half. Sisco and Horne netted their
second goals of the game later in the half as the Owls went ahead
5-0.
Horned scored his third goal of the game on an indirect kick and
freshman midfielder Kyle Geddes (Bow, N.H.) netted
his first college goal to wrap up the offensive barrage.
Goalies, junior Peter Kersker (Beverly, Mass.)
and senior Scott Pannone (Wolcott,Conn.) shared
the shutout with one save each.
Dominguez had a strong game for the Eagles with eight saves
before giving way to Brad Ala (Caribou, Me.), who stopped one shot.
Keene State is at Springfield College on Wednesday (7 p.m.)
Husson (0-3) returns home on Sunday to face St. Joseph's College
(2 p.m.).
