Bradford Nets Game-Winner Against Manhattanville College

PURCHASE,  N.Y. 9/6/08 -  Katie Bradford's (Lebanon, N.H.) goal at the 52:45 mark of the second half broke a 1-1 tie and lifted the Keene State women's soccer team to a 2-1 victory over host Manhattanville College in the 14th Annual Valiant Tournament on Saturday.

Keene State (3-0) will play Trinity College in second-round action on Sunday at noon. Trinity defeated Catholic University 2-0 in its opening-round game.

Bradford took a through ball from freshman forward Shannon Hennessey (Essex Junction, Vt.) dribbled around Valiant goalie Ali Bromson and deposited the ball into the net for what proved to be the game winner.  Both teams had scoring opportunities in the physically-played contest, but were unable to change the outcome.

Sophomore midfielder Jana Berthiaume (Worcester, Mass) gave the Owls a 1-0 first half lead when she fired the ball off the left post from 18-yards out. It was her second goal of the season.

Manhattanville tied the game 44 seconds into the second half on a goal by Kathyrn Moore.

Bradford's game-winner was her third of the season.

Junior Samantha Hirsh (Holliston, Mass.) made four saves in goal for KSC.  Bromson finished the game with three saves for the Valiants (1-2).
