PURCHASE, N.Y. 9/6/08 - Katie
Bradford's (Lebanon, N.H.) goal at the 52:45 mark of the
second half broke a 1-1 tie and lifted the Keene State women's
soccer team to a 2-1 victory over host Manhattanville College in
the 14th Annual Valiant Tournament on Saturday.
Keene State (3-0) will play Trinity College in second-round
action on Sunday at noon. Trinity defeated Catholic University 2-0
in its opening-round game.
Bradford took a through ball from freshman forward
Shannon Hennessey (Essex Junction, Vt.) dribbled
around Valiant goalie Ali Bromson and deposited the ball into the
net for what proved to be the game winner. Both teams had
scoring opportunities in the physically-played contest, but were
unable to change the outcome.
Sophomore midfielder Jana Berthiaume
(Worcester, Mass) gave the Owls a 1-0 first half lead when she
fired the ball off the left post from 18-yards out. It was her
second goal of the season.
Manhattanville tied the game 44 seconds into the second half on
a goal by Kathyrn Moore.
Bradford's game-winner was her third of the season.
Junior Samantha Hirsh (Holliston, Mass.) made
four saves in goal for KSC. Bromson finished the game with
three saves for the Valiants (1-2).
