BOSTON, MA - Sophomore forward Cam
Blair (Keene, NH) netted the afternoon's only goal to give
the Keene State College men's soccer team a 1-0 victory over host
University of Massachusetts Boston in a Little East Conference
match this afternoon at the Clark Athletic Center Field on the
campus of UMass Boston. The Beacons fall to 4-7-1 overall and
1-3-0 in LEC play, while the Owls, who remain in first place in the
LEC, improve to 8-6-0 and 4-1-0.
Freshman midfielder Aaron Mesham (Old Lyme,
CT), who was called up from the reserve team, sent a cross
from outside the 18-yard box to Blair, who trapped the ball, turned
and scored on a low shot that found the left side of the back of
the net for his second tally of the season at the 37:47 mark of the
first half for a 1-0 Keene State lead.
UMass Boston held the Owls scoreless for the remainder of the
match, including the last 47 minutes, despite being a man down, but
was unable to even the score.
"I thought we controlled play throughout the game," said KSC
Coach Ron Butcher. "Dan
Silverman (Maynard, Mass.) was the man of the match. Once
we put him in, he controlled the midfield."
Senior goalie Domenick Persuitte (West Barnstable, MA) stopped
six shots on the day for the Beacons, while senior keeper
Peter Kersker (Ipswich, MA) made four saves to
earn his third shutout of the season for Keene State.
UMass Boston will be in action again on Wednesday, October 21
when it hosts Emerson College at the Clark Athletic Center Field
for a 3:30 p.m. match, while the Owls return to action tomorrow at
3:00 p.m. with a home match vs. Western New England College.
