Framingham, Mass. 10/21/09 -
The Keene State College men's soccer team shutout Framingham State
2-0 in non-conference men's soccer action at Maple Street
Field. The Owls improve to 10-6 on the season with the win,
and the loss snaps a three game winning streak for the Rams who are
now 6-8-1 on the season.
"It was a tough game on turf," said KSC Coach Ron Butcher. "We
came up with the win and now we need to get ready for our big game
on Saturday against Western Connecticut."
Keene State's offense controlled the pace of play from the onset
and the Owls were able to take a 1-0 lead just 9:06 into the
contest. Freshman forward Shawn Shand (Keene,
NH) moved through the Rams defense and scored his eighth
goal of the season that proved to be the game winner.
The Rams had a chance to tie the score just before the half as
junior Scott Faria (Fall River, Mass.) sent a
corner into the box. Midfielder Rob O'Doherty
(Shrewsbury, Mass.) headed the ball past the Owls goal
keeper but freshman Danny Silverman (Maynard,
Mass.) was there on the post to knock the attempt away and
maintain the Owls 1-0 lead.
In the 62nd minute the Owls were finally able to
capitalize on a scoring chance when junior Luke Sisco (Pine
Plains, NY) fired a shot that deflected off Framingham
State goal keeper Greg Halle (Beverly, Mass.) and
rolled in to the net for the 2-0 lead.
Keene State junior Tom Conran (South Windsor,
Conn.) made three saves in the game and picked up his
third shutout win of the season. Freshman Sam Yoder
(Southbridge, Mass.) split time in net with Halle and made
two saves.
The Owls host Western Connecticut in Little East Conference action
at 1 p.m. at Owl Athletic Complex for senior day.
