Box Score CHANDLER,
AZ. 3/21/09 - The Keene State College baseball team concluded
its spring week trip to Arizona with an emphatic 18-7 victory over
Concordia (Wis.) College on Saturday.
The victory snapped a four-game losing streak for the Owls, who
return home with a 6-6 record.
Concordia led 5-2 after two innings before KSC bats exploded for
eight runs on eight hits in the third. Five Owls knocked in
runs with freshman Cody Callahan (Seekonk, Mass.)
having a pair of RBI doubles.
KSC added two more runs in the fifth on a RBI triple by
Beau Darak (Londonderry, N.H.) and run-producing
double by Callahan.
Bobby Doyon (Keene, N.H.) blasted a two-run home
run, his second of the trip, in the sixth inning.
The Owls finished the game with 16 hits. Callahan went
four-for-four at the plate, all doubles, with three RBIs.
Tyler DiPrato (Suffield, Conn.), Jeff
Perkins (Dunbarton, N.H.), and Doyon drove in two runs
each.
Junior Jeff Raymond (Amston, Conn.) picked
up his first win for KSC. He pitched five innings, giving up
five runs on eights hits with three strikeouts and two walks.
KSC Coach Ken Howe said it was a very productive
week for his team. "We learned the things we're good at and
the things we need to work on," he said. "The guys swung the bats
all week, but our starting pitching and defense are things we need
to work out. "It's tough playing 12 games in eight days."
Keene State is scheduled to play at Springfield College on
Wednesday.
