SPRINGFIELD, MASS. 3/25/09 - The Keene State baseball team
showed its can hit in any weather. After averaging over 10
runs and 14 hits per game during their spring week trip to Phoenix,
the Owl bats remained hot in their return to New England, banging
out 19 hits in 17-2 non-conference win over Springfield College on
Wednesday.
"You never how a team is going to respond when you get home,
needless to say, the cool weather had no bearing on our bats," said
KSC Coach Ken Howe.
Keene State (7-6) scored four runs in top of the second and third
innings. Bobby Doyon (Keene. N.H.) and
Tyler DiPrato (Cheshire, Conn.) opened the second
by belting back-to back home runs. It was the third
round-tripper of the season for Doyon and the first for DiPrato.
Jeff Perkins (Dunbarton, N.H.) also had a two-run
double.
In third, Doyon had a RBI double, and Cody
Callahan (Seekonk, Mass.) hit a two-run shot, his sixth
home run of the season, to make it 8-0.
KSC scored seven runs on six hits in the sixth to go up 16-0.
Erik Bergstrom (Enfield, Conn.), Anthony
Cipolla (Glastonbury, Conn.), DiPrato and Callahan had
RBIs hits in the inning.
DiPrato went four-for-five while Callahan and Kyle
Morrill (Auburn, N.H.) each had three hits. Doyon,
DiPrato and Callahan had three RBIs apiece.
Jeff Pelkey (Fitzwilliam, N.H.) gave up two hits
in his five innings of work on the mound to improve his record to
2-1. He fanned two and walked one. Kyle
O'Brien (Springfield, N.H.), Curtis Salo
(New Ipswich, N.H.), Billy O'Donnell (Hampton
Falls, N.H.) and Tim Thiesing (South Grafton,
Mass.) each tossed an inning.
Springfield (3-9) had seven hits in the game.
Keene State travels to Babson tomorrow for a 3:30 p.m. game.
