WESTFIELD, MASS. 4/16/09 - Sophomore Bobby
Doyon (Keene, NH) was 3 for 5 with a double and five RBI,
and freshman Cody Callahan (Seekonk, MA) was 3 for
4 with a home run and three RBI to power Keene State to a 13-3
victory over Westfield State in non-conference baseball action on
Thursday.
On the mound, freshman Tim Thiesing (South
Grafton, Mass.) picked up his first college pitching win. Thiesing
went the first five innings, giving up two runs and scattering nine
hits. He fanned one and issued two walks. Billy O'
Donnell (Hampton Falls, N.H.) and Mike
Murray also pitched for the Owls.
The Owls (14-10) jumped out to a 4-0 first inning lead and never
looked back. Jeff Perkins (Dunbarton, N.H.)
, who scored three runs, led off the inning
with a triple can came home on a RBI double by Jamie
Chevalier (Amherst, N.H.). Doyon knocked in
Chevalier with a single and Callahan capped the inning
with a two-run home run, his team-leading eighth round tripper of
the season.
A two-run single in the fourth by Doyon put the Owls up
6-0.
Keene State batted around and scored seven more run in the
fifth. Keith Patnode (Keene, N.H.), Doyon, Callahan and
Larry Longo (Londonderry, N.H.) each had
run-producing hits.
Anthony Cipolla (Glastonbury, Con.) also
had three hits in KSC's 16 hit attack. Doyon's five RBIs
gives him 40 on the season.
Brad King and Ben Campbell each had three hits for WSC (14-12).
The Owls, who are UMass-Boston on Friday, play five games in the
next three days. "At this stage of the season, all the games
are important," said KSC Coach Ken Howe.
"Everyone is scrambling for positioning in the post-season
tournament."
