WALTHAM, MASS. 4/17/09 - Senior Jeff
Perkins (Dunbarton, N.H.) racked up four hits, including a
pair of doubles and drove in three runs and junior
Keith Patnode (Keene, N.H.) added three hits and
four RBIs to lead Keene State to a 14-10 Little East Conference
victory over UMass-Boston at Yetten Field in Waltham on Friday.
Keene State improves to 15- 10 (4-4 LEC) while UMB falls to
11-16 (3-3 LEC).
The Owls jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first on a two-run home
run by Patnode, his fourth dinger of the season. A two-run
second inning included an RBI single from Perkins.
KSC used a two-run rally to score five more runs in the third to
go up 9-0. Senior Beau Darak (Londonderry,
N.H.) and Perkins each knocked in a pair with hits.
The Beacons scored three in the third and fourth innings to make
it 9-6.
The Owls came back with four runs in the sixth to push their
lead up to 13-6. Perkins, senior Jamie
Chevalier (Amherst, N.H.), and Patnode had consecutive
doubles and Darak had an RBI triple.
KSC final run came in the ninth on a RBI hit from Patnode.
Chevalier, sophomore Tyler DiPrato (Suffield,
Conn.) and Darak also had a pair of hits in KSC's 16-hit
attack.
Sophomore Corey Vogt (Suffield, Conn.) started
for the Owls, but left the game in the fourth after taking a
come-backer off the shins. Junior Ben
Sonberg (Bow, N.H.) took over on the mound and picked up
his third win (3-2) of the season. He went 5 and two-thirds
innings, giving up six runs on seven hits with five strikeouts and
one walk.
Keene State hosts Eastern Conn. in a key LEC doubleheader on
Saturday (12 p.m.).
