KEENE, N.H. 9/12/09 - The Keene State women's soccer team got
goals for seven different players in a 7-0 non-conference victory
over Framingham State at Owl Athletic Complex on Saturday.
Keene State, which notched its fourth shutout of the season,
improves to 4-1. Framingham State falls to 1-3.
Junior Nora Mahoney (Belchertown, Mass.) game the Owls a 1-0
lead at the 9:38 mark with a shot into the far corner of the net.
The Rams had a chance to tie the game when freshman Kim Clooney
(Weymouth, Mass.) broke in alone, but KSC sophomore goalie Megan
Dempsey (East Weymouth, Mass.) got a piece of her shot and directed
the ball wide of the net.
Minutes later, Mahoney had a strong scoring bid, but Ram
freshman goalie Kia Minor (Oak Bluffs, Mass.) came out of the net
and smothered her shot.
Taking a short feed from senior Molly Brunelle (Walpole, N.H..),
sophomore Britini Watkinson (Rochester, N.H.) scored on a shot from
top of the box to gave KSC a 2-0 lead.
The Owls added two more goals before the half. After
junior Katie Bradford (Lebanon, N.H.) was fouled in the box and
sophomore Shannon Hennessey (Essex Junction, Vt.) scored on the
penalty kick to make it a 3-0 game. Sophomore Sia
Karamourtopoulos (Fremont, N.H.) scored in the final minute of play
to give KSC a 4-0 halftime lead.
Bradford's fourth goal of the season early in the second half
put Keene State ahead 5-0. Freshman Brittany Croteau
(Swanzey, N.H.) scored her first college goal to make it 6-0 later
in the half. Sophomore Samantha Jo Saltalamaccia (Sandown,
N.H.) rounded out the scoring.
Senior Samantha Hirsh (Holliston, Mass.) and sophomores Leah
Swanson (Wakefield, R.I.) and Dempsey combined on the shutout with
Swanson and Dempsey each making a save.
Minot finished the game with seven saves for the Rams.
Keene State had a 28-7 advantage in shots and 2-0 in corner
kicks.
Both teams return to action on Tuesday. Keene State travels to
Tufts and Framingham State returns home to face Babson.
