CANTON, N.Y. 9/5/09 - The Keene State men's soccer fell
3-1 to the host team at St. Lawrence University Lotto
Tournament in Canton, N.Y. on Saturday.
Keene State's lone goal of the game was scored by freshman
Joe Senecal (Manchaug, Mass.). Senecal's goal, his
first in the college ranks, came at the 52:21 mark of the second
half, tying the game at 1-1. He picked up a loose ball in
front of the cage and put the ball in the far corner. Freshman
Shawn Shand (Keene, N.H.) got an assist on the
goal.
The Saints (1-0), who have earned NCAA berths 12 out of the last
14 years, went ahead 2-1 on a goal by Dan Marvin at 70:54.
Sam DeMello added an insurance goal with 12 minutes to play.
Making his first start in goal this season, senior Peter Kersker
(Ipswich, Mass.) made 11 saves for the Owls.
Brian Abernathy stopped eight shots for St. Lawrence.
Keene State (1-1) will play Clarkson University on Sunday (12
p.m.).
