BANGOR, MAINE 9/5/09 - Junior Katie
Bradford's (Lebanon, N.H.) first half goal was the
difference in Keene State College's 1-0 women's soccer victory over
Western New England College at the Husson College Classic in
Bangor, Me., on Saturday.
The Owls (2-0), who have yet to allow a goal in their first two
games of the season, will face the host Eagles on Sunday (12:15
p.m.).
Bradford's goal, her team-leading third of the season, was set up
by a well-placed through ball from senior Jacyln
Grant (Newington, Conn.). Jaclyn one-timed the ball
back to me in the box and I took a touch and shot it," Bradford
said.
Bradford said the Owls had trouble adjusting to Husson's field turf
surface. "It's so much different than grass. It's almost like
being back in Europe because it was so fast."
Keene State sophomore goalie Megan Dempsey (East
Weymouth, Mass.) turned aside five shots to pick up her first
career shutout. Senior Jessica Covino made 10 saves for WNEC,
which was playing its first game of the season.
The Owls outshot the Golden Bears 21-8 and had a 6-1 advantage in
corner kicks.
