Box Score KEENE, N.H. 10/13/10 – The Keene State College men's
soccer team lost a 1-0 non-conference game to Rensselaer
Polytechnic Institute at Owl Athletic Complex on Wednesday
night.
Keene State, which has scored just two goals in its last five
games, falls to 8-4-2. RPI, coached by former Owl Adam
Clinton, improves to 6-3-2.
Sophomore Zach Fane (Troy, N.Y.) scored the only goal of the
game at the 15:03 mark of the first half. Fane went
around the right side and sent a crossing ball into the box that
deflected off a KSC defender into the net.
Fane had an chance to add to Engineers' lead early in the second
half, but his close-range shot was blocked by a pair of Owl
defenders. Later in the game, KSC senior goalie Tom Conran (South
Windsor, Conn.) turned aside consecutive shots by Benjamin Poser
(Scotts Valley, Ca.) at the side of the net.
Freshman Scott Douglas (East
Greenwich, R.I.) had one of the few offensive opportunities for
KSC, which had just one shot on goal in the game. Douglas cut in on
a partial break, but RPI senior goalie Alex Penny beat him to the
ball.
RPI outshot KSC 11-4 while the Owls had a slim 4-3 advantage in
corner kicks.
Sophomore Nick
Allman (Newburyport, Mass.) started in goal for KSC and made
one save in the first half. Conran took over in the second
half and finished with four saves.
Penny made one save for RPI on the way to notching his sixth
shutout of the season.
Both teams return to action on Saturday. Keene State hosts
UMass-Boston in a Little East game. RPI travels to Clark
University.
