10/6/10 – Keene State College and Salem State College battled
to a 0-0 double-overtime tie in non-conference men's soccer action
at Alumni Field on Wednesday night.
It
was Keene State's (8-3-1) first tie of the season. Salem
State goes to 4-3-3.
"We whistled balls by the post and
over the cross-bar all night," said KSC Coach Ron
Butcher.
Keene State had
several opportunities to score in the hard-fought game. In
the second half, senior Luke Sisco (Pine
Plains, N.Y.) missed a point-blank bid and sophomore Joe Senecal
(Manchaug, Mass.) came up empty on a breakaway attempt. KSC had an
opportunity to win the game in the closing seconds of regulation,
but freshman Scott Douglas's
(East Greenwich, R.I.) drive sailed just wide of the
post.
Douglas also
missed an open net opportunity in the first overtime
period.
The Vikings' best
chances to score came in the second half came off
the foot of Rafael Santos, who rocketed two shots that KSC goalie
Paul
Blackmer (Boylston, Mass.) was able to turn them
away.
Keene
State's back four defenders played well in front of Blackmer
who made eight saves to post his second straight
shutout.
Luis Marques
stopped six shots for the Vikings.
Keene State
returns to Little East play on Saturday when it travels to North
Dartmouth to face UMass-Dartmouth.
