Box Score WILLIAMSTOWN, MASS. 10/6/10 – The Keene State College
women's soccer team gave Williams College all it could handle
before falling to the No. 9 team in Division III and the top team
in New England 2-1 in Williamstown, Mass. on Wednesday
afternoon.
"We showed we can play with one of the top teams in the
country," said KSC Coach Denise Lyons. "I'm
very proud of them. We left everything on the
field."
The Ephs (6-2-1) scored the only goal of the first half when
Kara Duggan headed in a corner kick from Sara Wild.
Freshman Jessica Berthiaume (Worcester, Mass.) tied the game
five minutes into the second half. Berhiaume finished off a
lead pass from senior Katie Bradford (Lebanon, N.H.) for her
team-leading 10th goal of the season.
Brett Eisenhart scored the game-winner for Williams nine minutes
later.
The Owls (8-3-2) had several chances to tie the game.
Sophomore Joan Hamel (Weare, N.H.) had a shot that beat Eph's
keeper Julia Schreiber, but hit the post.
Williams outshot the Owls 18-11 while each team finished with
six corner kicks.
Junior Megan Dempsey (East Weymouth, Mass.) finished the game
with seven saves. Schreiber stopped five shots for the
Ephs.
Keene State host UMass-Dartmouth in a Little East game on
Saturday (1 p.m.).
