KEENE, N.H. 10/9/10 – It was the Katie Bradford show at Owl Athletic Complex on Saturday.  The senior forward from Lebanon, N.H. scored four goals to break the school record for points in a career (145) and tied the Owl record for goals (60) in a career and in a game in Keene State's 5-1 Little East Conference women's soccer victory over UMass-Dartmouth.

Keene State improves to 9-3-2 (3-1 LEC) while UMass-Dartmouth falls to 3-9 and 0-3 in conference play.

Keene State had a chance to get on the board in the opening minute, but Corsair freshman defender Erin Linsenbigler (Suffield, Conn.) came across and knocked away a shot by Owl freshman forward Jessica Berthiaume (Worcester, Mass.) just before it went into the net.

Freshman forward Erica Jonasson (Wrentham, Mass.) gave UMD a 1-0 lead two minutes later when she broke in alone and put the ball into an open net after KSC junior goalie Megan Dempsey (East Weymouth, Mass.) came out to take away her angle.

The goal served as a wake-up call for the Owls, who scored the next five goals of the game. 

Bradford started the scoring spree at the 30:10 mark when she tipped a shot by sophomore forward Joan Hamel (Weare, N.H.) past Corsair senior goalie Tanya Braga (Hudson, Mass.).  Berthiaume made it 2-0 less than two minutes later when she converted a goal-line pass from senior midfielder Nora Mahoney (Belchertown) for her 11th goal of the season.

Bradford collected a loose ball and fired it into the net to give KSC a 3-1 lead at the half. She netted two more goals in the second half to complete her record-setting game.  Her third goal was a close range drive into the top of the net and her record-tying goal and 12th of the season came when she finished off a lead pass from Berthiaume with 11:24 to play. 

Following the game Bradford said she was overwhelmed by the experience. "I can't really put it into words," said Bradford, who broke and tied the career marks set by KSC Hall of famer Philo Robinson (1988-91).  "My teammates are amazing and the coaching staff has created an atmosphere where I can succeed.  I've been taking them one a time the whole season.  You can't think about the next one until you get the first one."

"Katie is a phenomenal and unselfish player," said KSC Coach Denise Lyons.  "Today she took care of her own opportunities and I couldn't be any happier for her."

After UMD's opening goal, KSC dominated play, finishing with a 16-2 lead in shots and 7-0 advantage in corner kicks.

Dempsey was not credited with a save in the game for KSC.  Braga had five saves for the Corsairs, who also had a team save.

Keene State starts a three-game road trip at Middlebury College on Tuesday.  UMass-Dartmouth returns home to face Mass. College of Liberal Arts on Monday.
