CLERMONT, FLORIDA 3/16/10 –
The Keene State College softball team found itself on different
ends of shutouts in Florida on Tuesday. The Owls blanked
Bethel (Minn.) University 2-0 and later in the day were shutout by
Bowdoin College 5-0.
Sara Stocklinski
(Newton, N.J.), a sophomore transfer from Sussex County Community
College in New Jersey, tossed 6 1/3 innings of two hit ball to
pick-up her first win for the Owls in the opener. She took a
no hitter into the seventh inning, fanning three and issuing two
walks.
The Owls got one run in the fifth
when they loaded the bases and freshman Jessica
Fiorenza (Wakefield, Mass.) scored on a throwing error.
Freshman Nicole Dupuis (Fitchburg, Mass.), who was
3-for-3 in the game, hit the first home run of the season for KSC
in the sixth inning.
Sophomore
Samantha Pratt (Bristol, Con.) got the finals two
outs of the game to pick-up the save.
Keene State could muster just three
hits in the second game against Bowdoin, singles by sophomore
Laura Chandler (Wakefield, Mass.), freshman
Heather Harold (Newton, N.J.), and
Fiorenza.
Bowdoin scored
one run in the second and three more in the fourth inning.
Sophomore Emily
Albin (Bethel, Conn.) took the loss for the Owls.
She pitched six innings, giving up five runs (two earned) on 10
hits while striking out seven and walking one
batter.
Keene State (4-2) will be off on
Wednesday. They resume play on Thursday with games against
SUNY-Geneseo and Central College.
