CHANDLER, AZ. 3/20/10 – The Keene State College baseball team
completed its 12-game spring week trip with an 11-4 win over the
Carleton (Minn.) College Knights at Snedigar Sportsplex in
Chandler, Az. on Saturday.
The Owls, who conclude their trip with a 7-5 record, scored four
runs in the second inning, to go up 5-0. Sophomore Kyle
Morrill (Auburn, N.H.) had a two-run single to left and
senior Keith Patnode (Keene, N.H.) brought in a
run with an RBI double.
KSC went up 6-1 on an RBI double by junior designated hitter
Peter Burgio (Bolton, Conn.) in the third.
Morrill knocked in two more runs in a three-run fifth inning.
“I've been feeling very comfortable at the plate and
seeing the ball real well,” said Morrill, who finished the
trip with a team-high 21 RBIs. “Hopefully I can continue my
good hitting when we return home.”
The Owls collected 12 hits in the game. Freshman Sean
Gavin (Keene, N.H.), Patnode, and Morrill each had two
hits.
Junior pitcher Dan Nelson (Glastonbury,
Conn.) improved his record to 2-0. He went six innings,
giving up three runs on six hits with a couple of strikeouts.
Senior Ben Sonberg (Bow, N.H.), sophomore
Tim Thiesing (South Grafton, Mass.), and freshman
Tim Quagliaroli (Windsor Locks, Con.) each tossed
an inning in relief.
“It's been a long week. The guys are tired and
beat up, so we're looking forward to getting home,”
said KSC Coach Ken Howe.
Keene State begins its northern schedule on Wednesday when it hosts
Springfield College.
