SPRINGFIELD, Mass. 4/14/10- Keene State College dropped a 9-3
non-conference baseball game to Western New England College at
Trelease Park in Springfield on Wednesday.
WNEC ran its winning streak to six games with the victory. The
Golden Bears collected 15 hits and stole four bases in raising
their record to 22-6. The Owls, who defeated the Golden Bears 15-8
back on March 15 in Chandler, Arizona, drop to 12-11-1.
Senior pitcher Matt Rogers (Portsmouth, RI) allowed 10 hits and
struck out five with a walk in gaining his sixth win of the season
in seven decisions.
Senior first baseman Joe Griglun (Southington, CT) continued to
impress at the plate going 4-for-5 with two runs and four RBI for
WNEC.
Keene State took a 1-0 lead in the first on a RBI double by
senior designated hitter Anthony Cipolla
(Glastonbury, CT). The Golden Bears promptly tied the contest in
the bottom of the inning on Griglun's RBI single.
Western New England College scored four runs in the third
(two-run single by Griglun the big hit) and three times in the
fifth (highlighted by a two-run double by Mike Rubino) to extend
its lead to 8-2.
The Owls finished with 10 hits with junior right fielder
Bobby Doyon (Keene, NH) compiling two singles, a
double, and run. Cipolla added two hits, a run, and RBI while
junior first baseman Peter Burgio (Bolton, CT)
also had a pair of hits.
KSC used five pitchers with sophomore starter Nick
Winn (West Hartford, CT) (0-1) dropping his first decision
of the spring.
Keene State returns home to face Westfield State on Thursday
(3:30 p.m.).
