NORTON, MASS. 4/2/10 – The Keene State College baseball team
fell behind early and never recovered, dropping a 14-7
non-conference game to Wheaton College at Sidell Stadium on Friday
afternoon.
“We had a couple of mental breakdowns early in the game and
it was costly,” said KSC Coach Ken
Howe. “We just didn't make the easy
plays. Wheaton is a good club and we just didn't get it
done today.”
Trailing 11-1 after three innings, the Owls (8-7) got four runs
back in the top of the fourth on a three-run home run by sophomore
Cody Callahan (Seekonk, Mass.), his first of the
season, and an RBI double of the bat of sophomore Kyle
Morrill (Auburn, N.H.).
Wheaton added two more runs in the seventh and one more in the
eighth to go up 14-5. Junior Bobby Doyon
(Keene, N.H.) hit his team-leading fourth home run of the season, a
two-run shot with two outs in the ninth to account for the final
score.
Doyon and sophomore Greg Bates (Salem, N.H.) each
had three hits for the Owls.
Designated hitter Sean Ryan knocked in four runs for the Lyons.
Senior Jeff Raymond (Amston, Conn.) took the loss
for KSC. He is 0-3 on the season. Senior Mike
Riley (East Hartford, Conn.) fanned in his 3.1 innings of
work on the mound.
Justin Santiago (2-0) picked up the win for Wheaton.
Keene State plays its first home games of the season on Saturday
when they host Western Conn. at 12 p.m. The doubleheader was
originally scheduled to be played in Danbury, but was moved to
Keene.
