Box Score KEENE, N.H., 9/11/10 – The Keene State
College men's soccer team was shutout by Wheaton College 4-0
at Owl Athletic Complex on Saturday afternoon.
After winning its first three games of the season, KSC (3-2) has
been blanked in its last two games. Wheaton, ranked sixth in
New England, improves to 3-0-1.
The Lyons struck for three goals in the first half. Yuri
Moreira (Marlboro, Mass.) and David Ferriero (Medway, Mass.),
both seniors, scored on rebounds following free kicks.
With KSC senior goalie Paul Blackmer (Boylston, Mass.) pulled out
of position, sophomore Will Nesbit (Holliston, Mass.) put the ball
into the open net to make it 3-0.
Keene State showed some life in the second half. Senior
forward Cam Blair (Keene, N.H.) had a drive that was stopped by
Lyon senior goalie Chris Smart at the corner of the net.
Senior Alex Redding (Newton, Mass.) concluded the scoring at the
66:56 mark of the second half when he turned and drove the ball
into the corner of the net.
Keene State and Wheaton each finished the game with 14 shots and
five corner kicks. Blackmer stopped four shots. Smart made
six saves to register his second shutout of the season.
Keene State is at Western New England College on Wednesday (4
p.m.). Wheaton College is at Roger Williams on Sunday.
