– Sophomore Sean Fortier (Alstead, N.H.) and freshman Bryce Lawlor (Naugatuck, Conn.) scored goals and sophomore goalie Nick Allman (Newburyport, Mass.) made seven saves to lead the Keene
State men's soccer team to a 2-0 shutout victory over Western
New England College at Suprenant Field on Wednesday.
With the win, Keene State (4-2)
snaps a two games losing skid. The Golden Bears fall to
2-3-1.
The Owls netted goals in each
half. Fortier, who recently returned to the KSC line-up,
scored the opening goal in the 25th minute on a free kick from 25
yards out. The goal was Fortier's first of his career.
Two freshmen hooked up to give
Keene State an insurance goal in the 76th minute. Making a
run down the right side, freshman Scott Douglas (East Greenwich,
R.I.) hit Lawlor, who put the ball past WNEC freshman goalie
Domenic Villano (Bronx, N.Y.). It was Lawlor's second
goal of the season.
"We had two good days of
practice and the guys came out and worked hard to get the
win," said KSC Coach Ron Butcher.
Allman, who was making his
second start in goal for the Owls, notched his first shutout.
Villano also had seven saves for the Golden Bears.
Keene State plays its first
Little East game of the season on Saturday when it plays at
Plymouth State.
