Box Score NORTHAMPTON, Mass. 9/16/10 - Playing in the
driving rain, the Keene State College women's soccer team
scored three goals in each half on their way to a 6-0 win over the
Smith College on Thursday night. With the win, the Owls remain
unbeaten in their last four matches (3-0-1) and improve to 4-1-2 on
the season, while Smith falls to 0-3 on the season.
The Owls got the scoring started midway through the first half
when senior striker Katie Bradford (Lebanon, N.H.)
put home a pass from senior midfielder Nora Mahoney
(Belchertown, Mass.). Freshman Kelsie Bailey
(Barre, VT) added her first career goal six minutes later
at the 30:46 mark, and Bradford got her second of the game to close
out the first half scoring.
In the second half, KSC continued to score, as sophomore
Joan Hamel (Weare, N.H.), freshman Kristen Huckins (Westmoreland, N.H.), and Melissa Dempsey
(E. Weymouth, Mass.) added second half goals for Keene
State.
Bradford added an assist on Huckins goal off a corner kick to
finish the day with two goals and an assist.
Junior goalie Megan Dempsey (E. Wemouth, Mass.)
and freshman Jillian Lohneiss (West Hartford,
Conn.) split time in goal for the Owls without facing a
shot. Liz Gregor made six saves for Smith in the
losing effort.
The Owls will open up Little East Conference play at home on
Saturday, taking on in-state rival Plymouth State at 1 p.m. at Owl
Athletic Complex.
