Owls outlast Worcester State 2-1

Box Score

WORCESTER, MASS. 9/22/10 – The Keene State men's soccer team scored a pair of first half goals and held on for a 2-1 non-conference win over Worcester State on Wednesday night.

The Owls, who have won three straight, improve to 6-2.  Worcester State falls to 2-6.

Sophomore Sean Fortier (Alstead, N.H.) gave Keene State a 1-0 lead with an unassisted goal; his second of the season, at the 4:12 mark of the first half.  Lancer goalie Evan Waga never saw his shot through a screen.

A pair of sophomore hooked up to give KSC a 2-0 lead at the 23:50 mark. Kyle Leavitt (Plymouth, Mass.) crossed a great ball to Joe Senecal (Manchaug, Mass.), who finished off the play for his team-leading fifth goal of the season.

Worcester State scored 11 minutes into the second half on a goal by Justin Biela,  making it a 2-1 game.

KSC coach Ron Butcher called the game a barn-burner.  "It was just a question who could outlast the other team," he said.  "It was not a thing of beauty."

Making his first appearance in goal since the opening game of the season, KSC senior goalie T.J. Conran (South Windsor, Conn.) finished with two saves.

Wiga made seven saves for Worcester State.

The Owls are home on Saturday for a key Little East Conference game against Eastern Conn.
