Freshmen Lead Owls Over Clark 2-0

Box Score

KEENE, N.H., 9/22/10 – Freshmen Jessica Berthiaume (Worcester, Mass.) and Kelsie Bailey (Barre, Vt.) each scored goals and junior goalie Meghan Dempsey (East Weymouth, Mass.) made two saves leading Keene State to a 2-0 shutout win over Clark University in non-conference women's soccer action at Owl Athletic Complex on Wednesday night.

It was the third consecutive shutout for KSC (6-1-2), which is undefeated in its last six games.  Clark falls to 3-4.

Junior Shannon Hennessey (Essex Junction, Vt.) had a chance to give Keene State a lead two minutes in the game, but her penalty kick went just left of the post. Although the Owls controlled play, Dempsey kept it a scoreless game later in the half when she came out of the net to stop a shot by Cougar senior Kristen Murrone (Middletown, Conn.).

Keene State scored with just over 10 minutes to play in the first half.  Junior Sia Karamourtopoulos (Sandown, N.H.), who had just entered the game, sent a cross over to Berthiaume, who tucked the ball into the far post for her team-leading eighth goal of the season.

Bailey's goal at the 46:02 mark of the second half also came on a crossing play.  Berthiaume sent the ball over to Bailey who drove it into the net for her second goal of the season.

Cougar goalie Joanna Clark, who finished with 10 saves, made a couple of nice stops later on Berthiaume later in the game, including one on a breakaway.

It was Dempsey's fifth shutout of the season and 14th of her career.

Keene State returns to Little East play on Saturday with a key game at Eastern Conn.   Clark host Wheaton College in NEWMAC action on Saturday.
