Box Score KEENE, N.H., 9/22/10 – Freshmen Jessica Berthiaume
(Worcester, Mass.) and Kelsie Bailey (Barre, Vt.) each scored goals
and junior goalie Meghan Dempsey (East Weymouth, Mass.) made two
saves leading Keene State to a 2-0 shutout win over Clark
University in non-conference women's soccer action at Owl
Athletic Complex on Wednesday night.
It was the third consecutive shutout for KSC (6-1-2), which is
undefeated in its last six games. Clark falls to 3-4.
Junior Shannon Hennessey (Essex Junction, Vt.) had a chance to
give Keene State a lead two minutes in the game, but her penalty
kick went just left of the post. Although the Owls controlled play,
Dempsey kept it a scoreless game later in the half when she came
out of the net to stop a shot by Cougar senior Kristen Murrone
(Middletown, Conn.).
Keene State scored with just over 10 minutes to play in the
first half. Junior Sia Karamourtopoulos (Sandown, N.H.), who
had just entered the game, sent a cross over to Berthiaume, who
tucked the ball into the far post for her team-leading eighth goal
of the season.
Bailey's goal at the 46:02 mark of the second half also
came on a crossing play. Berthiaume sent the ball over to
Bailey who drove it into the net for her second goal of the
season.
Cougar goalie Joanna Clark, who finished with 10 saves, made a
couple of nice stops later on Berthiaume later in the game,
including one on a breakaway.
It was Dempsey's fifth shutout of the season and 14th of
her career.
Keene State returns to Little East play on Saturday with a key
game at Eastern Conn. Clark host Wheaton College in
NEWMAC action on Saturday.
