Box Score BABSON PARK, Mass. 9/29/10 – The Babson
College men's soccer team erupted for four goals in the first
half for a 5-0 victory over visiting Keene State College in a
matchup of regionally-ranked foes at Hartwell-Rogers Field on
Wednesday. The Beavers, ranked fourth in the most recent NSCAA New
England poll, improved to 8-2-0 with the win, while the Owls,
ranked 10th in the region, fell to 7-3-0.
Babson jumped out to a quick 1-0 lead less than six minutes into
the contest, as junior captain Max Walker (Newton, Mass.) headed in
a perfect corner kick from sophomore Josh Danesh (Brookline, Mass.)
at 5:41. The Beavers then made it 2-0 at the 18-minute mark, when
junior Billy Nickerson (Middleton, Mass.) scored an easy breakaway
goal after receiving a nice through-ball from sophomore Eric
Anderson (Scituate, Mass.) at the top of the box.
The Beavers offense continued its assault less than three
minutes later, as Walker beat a defender to a loose ball at the top
of the box, made a move on sophomore goalie Nick Allman
(Newburyport, Mass.), and found a wide-open net for his second of
the game at 20:50. Sophomore Ayo Iwuagwu (Lagos, Nigeria) then
capped off his team's four-goal half with another unassisted
score, as he carried a deflection off Allman's hands into an
open net at 27:04.
Babson added one final tally in the second half, as Nickerson
took a feed from Anderson down the right sideline and crossed it to
Danesh, who knocked home a wide-open shot to make it 5-0 at
53:10.
That would be more than enough for Babson keepers Peter Crowley
(Lexington, Mass.) and Jackson Klein (Maplewood, N.J.), who
combined for four saves in net for the Beavers. All Four Owl
goalies saw time in net for Keene State, making a total of four
stops in the defeat.
