Box Score

WINTER HAVEN, Florida 3/18/2011 – The Keene State College baseball team continues to stay hot in Florida, dropping Suffolk University 14-0 for their fourth straight win, and sixth in their last seven. Four Owls collected multiple RBI's and six hurlers combined for the shutout in the win.

The Owls (7-2), who have scored 79 runs since heading down to Florida, have averaged over 11 runs a game in their last seven contests. "The guys are hitting the ball well," said KSC head coach Ken Howe. "We are getting good pitches to hit because we have been working the counts in our favor."

Senior catcher Tyler DiPrato (Suffield, Conn.) went three-for-three with two RBI's, two runs scored and a walk to lead KSC. "We're having fun out there," said DiPrato. "We are working the counts, seeing the ball well and we just need to keep this going."

Junior designated-hitter Larry Longo (Londonderry, N.H.) went two-for-four with a two-RBI single in the second inning. Juniors Erik Bergstrom (Enfield, Conn.) and Kyle Morrill (Auburn, N.H.) also had two-RBI's on the game. Bergstrom did his damage with a sacrifice-fly in the eighth and RBI double in the fifth. Morrill's lone hit of the day was a two-RBI double in the fifth inning.

Sophomore leadoff man Greg Bates (Salem, N.H.) set the table for the Owls all day and had three hits, while knocking in one run and stealing two bases.

Sophomore John Coughlin (Litchfield, N.H.) and junior Jeff Pelkey (Fitzwilliam, N.H.) combined to pitch the first five scoreless innings for KSC. One inning apiece from sophomore Joe Katin (Byefield, Mass.), senior Ed Lacourse (Manchester, N.H.), junior Dan Wogksch (Bethel, Conn.) and senior Corey Vogt (Suffield, Conn.) closed the door down for the Owls in the five-hit shutout victory. "All the pitchers did their job today," said Howe. "They attacked the zone and threw strikes and took advantage of Suffolk's aggressive hitting style."

"The pitchers threw strikes all day," said DiPrato, the Owls catcher for the first seven innings. "They kept hitting the zone and the defense made the plays all day."

Pelkey picked up the victory for the Owls, going two and two-third's innings to pick up his second victory of the year. Vogt had three strikeouts in the ninth to close it out for KSC.

Rams (5-3) starter Mitch Monke (Springfield, Ohio) went four innings, allowing eight runs in the losing effort to drop his record to 1-1 on the young season.

The Owls conclude their spring trip Saturday morning with a contest against Roger Williams University at 9:30 a.m.
