WESTFIELD, MASS. 4/14/11 – Senior Bobby Doyon (Keene,
N.H.) knocked in three runs and junior Erik Bergstrom
(Enfield, Conn.) hit his first home run of the season to lead Keene
State to an 8-5 victory over Westfield State University in
non-conference baseball action in Westfield, Mass. on Thursday.
Winners of four straight, Keene State improves to 17-6. The
Owls have feasted on their non-conference opponents, posting a 14-4
mark against teams not in the Little East.
Keene State put four runs on the scoreboard in the top of the first
inning and held on for the win against Westfield (10-15). Doyon and
junior Larry
Longo (Londonderry, N.H.) each had RBI doubles and junior Juan Bisono (New
Britain, Conn.) brought in a run with a single through the right
side in the inning.
Sacrifice flies by freshman Matt Boulay (Stafford
Springs, Conn.) and Doyon in the fourth put KSC up 6-0.
Keene State scored single runs in the sixth and seventh innings to
make it an 8-3 game. Doyon had another sacrifice fly in the
sixth and Bergstrom homered in the seventh.
Westfield cut Keene State lead to 8-5 with two runs in the bottom
of the eighth, but senior Corey Vogt (Suffield,
Conn.) came in and got the side in order, including a couple of
strikeouts in the ninth inning to notch his third save of the
season.
Junior Kyle
Morrill (Auburn, N.H.) continued hot at the plate, finishing
with three hits. He has batted .429 (12-28) in the Owls' last
seven games.
Sophomore Kyle
Underwood (Campton, N.H.), who had a no-hitter through five
innings, gave KSC a solid start. Picking up his first
win of the season (1-0), he went the first five innings,
giving up three runs on five hits with a couple of strikeouts and a
walk.
Junior Nick Winn
(West Hartford, Conn.), seniors Ryan Boden (Keene,
N.H.) and Ed
Lacourse (Manchester, N.H.) sophomore Joe Katlin (Byfield,
Mass.) and Vogt followed Underwood to the mound.
Playing four games in the next three days, KSC will host Western
New England College on Friday (3:30 p.m.).
