Second half surge leads Owls over RIC 5-1

           PROVIDENCE, R.I.   10/13/12 – The Keene State College women's soccer team broke open a close game with three unanswered goals in the second half to post a 5-1 Little East Conference victory over Rhode Island College in Providence on Saturday.

            Senior Brittany Croteau (Swanzey, N.H.) scored two goals for the Owls (10-6, 3-2 LEC) who have won nine of their last 10 games.  Seniors Jessica Berthiaume (Worcester, Mass.) and Elise Bolster (Narragansett, R.I.) and junior Brittany Boscarino (Ellington, Conn.) also found the back of the net for Keene State.

            Senior Sarah Fagen (West Kingston, RI.) scored the lone goal for the Anchorwomen (2-9, 0-5 LEC), who have dropped nine out of their last 10 games.

            Croteau scored just 1:03 into the game to give KSC an early 1-0 lead.  Berthiaume's eighth goal of the season pushed the lead up to 2-1. 

            Fagen scored in the final minutes of the first half to make it a 2-1 game at the half.

            Boscarino netted her eight goal of the season four minutes into the second half to give the Owls a 3-1 lead.  Bolster and Croteau scored unassisted goal later in the half. Croteau's two goals give her four for the season.

            Keene State had a 21-8 advantage in shots and a 6-3 edge in corners.

            Sophomore Torrie Crenson (North Salem, N.Y.) and freshman Kathryn Hoar (Plymouth Mass.) each played a half in goal for the Owls. Crenson made one save while Hoar stopped three shots.

            Sophomore Audrey Maia (Norton, Mass.) started in goal for the Anchorwomen and made five saves.  Sophomore Ashlyn Cleary (Tiverton, R.I.) played the final 9:01 and didn't make a save.

            Keene State is at 12th ranked Amherst College on Wednesday (7 p.m.).
