Box Score DANBURY, CT (Oct. 27) - Senior midfielder Blake Nyman (Plymouth, MA) scored the game's only goal and the Keene State College men's soccer team held on to defeat Western Connecticut State University, 1-0 on Senior Night at The WAC on Saturday.
Nyman collected his third goal of the season following a well-placed corner kick from Bryce Lawlor (Woodbury, CT) at the 21:38 mark.
The Owls' defense, which posted its third straight shutout, held the rest of the way.
KSC keeper Malcolm Cheney (Hopkinton, MA) made two saves as Western triggered 13 attempts, but only two found the goal mouth. It was Cheney's fourth shutout of the season and the seventh of his career.
Junior net minder Jack Holub (Sherman, CT) made six saves for the Colonials, which have dropped eight 1-0 decisions this season.
The Owls11-6-1 overall and 5-1-1 in the league, move on to the semi-finals of the upcoming Little East Conference Tournament as the second seed and will host third seed University of Massachusetts Dartmouth on Wednesday, weather permitting. Eastern Connecticut State University was crowned regular-season champions and will host fourth seed Plymouth State University, also on Wednesday. The winners of each game will battle for the LEC Championship on Saturday, with the winner of that game earning an automatic berth into the NCAA Tournament.
Western ends its season at 3-12-2 overall and 2-5 in the LEC.
