LEC Semifinals: Beacons beat Owls 3-0

Box Score

BOSTON, MASS.  11/3/12 – The fourth seeded Keene State College women's soccer team had no answers for the top seeded Beacons from UMass-Boston who shutout the Owls 3-0 in a Little East Conference tournament semifinal game played at the Clark Athletic Center field on Saturday.

Hoping to reach the finals for the 11th time, Keene State (12-9-1) will await an ECAC New England tournament berth on Monday. Looking for their first LEC crown, the Beacons (17-2) will host third seed Western Conn. in the LEC finals on Sunday.  WCSU and second seed Eastern Conn played to a 1-1 tie after two overtimes with the Colonials advancing on penalty kicks.

The Beacons, coached by former Owl All-American Amy Zombeck, took a 1-0 lead at the 34:24 mark of the first half when junior Sam Cristoforo (Rockland, Mass.) put a rebound past KSC sophomore goalie Torrie Crenson (North Salem, N.Y.)

UMass-Boston added two more goals in the second half.  Taking a pass over the KSC defense from junior Tayla Andrews (Plymouth, Mass.), sophomore Krista Ledin (Bridgewater, Mass.) gave UMB a 2-0 lead with her breakaway goal, her 26th goal of the season.

Andrews scored four minutes later with a shot to the top left corner of the net to account for the final score.

"They just played better than us," said KSC Coach Denise Lyons. "We didn't generate any offense and play our game.  It just wasn't our day."

UMass-Boston outshot the Owls 20-7 and had a wide 8-1 advantage in corner opportunities.

Crenson finished the game with nine saves.  Sophomore Kristen Spain stopped five shots for the Beacons.
