LEESBURG, Florida 3/10/12 – Starting pitchers Eric Perrault (Salem, N.H.) and Tim Thiesing (South Grafton, Mass.) each had sensational starts on the mound, as the Keene State College baseball team swept regional rival Husson College, 10-2 and 4-2, on Sunday night at Pat Thomas Stadium.

Perrault did not allow a hit until the bottom of the seventh inning in game one for the Owls, while Thiesing went six innings allowing no earned runs and striking out 13 batters in a very dominant start. "Both guys did a real great job," said KSC head coach Ken Howe.

"It was my first start and I felt really fresh," said Thiesing. "I just wanted to go out and throw strikes and give our team a chance to win."

Perrault went six and a third innings, allowing no earned runs with six strikeouts and had three, 1-2-3 innings. "We had a tough start to our Florida trip yesterday," said Perrault. "It was nice to come out and throw well and get some wins."

Also shining for the Owls in game one, the offense was getting the big hits when they needed too, as KSC had nine of their 10 RBI's coming with two outs. "That's something that we work on a lot at practice," said Howe. "Situational hitting is very important and it worked in our favor today."

Offensively the Owls had their full lineup back and exploded for 13 hits in the victory, as eight-of-nine Keene State starters had at least one hit in the ball-game.

Senior outfielder Peter Burgio (Bolton, Conn.) led KSC with three-RBI's, on a two-for-five night first game. Senior center-fielder Kyle Morrill (Auburn, N.H.) and freshman catcher Chuck Vogt (Windsor Locks, Conn.) each added two-RBI's for the Owls in the victory.

Senior captains Morrill and Erik Bergstrom (Enfield, Conn.), each making their first appearance of the season, scored three runs for the Owls. "It was nice to have everyone back in our lineup and we put up some crooked numbers tonight and got the big win," said Perrault.

Husson starter Nate Adams (Frankfort, Maine) went four and a third innings, allowing six earned runs  and two walks while striking out five to drop to 0-2 on the season.

In game two, Husson starter Pat McEwen (Brewer, Maine) was pitching a gem opposite of Thiesing. With the game tied 1-1 heading into the bottom of the sixth, KSC pushed across three runs to take a 4-1 lead.

Senior first-baseman Larry Longo (Londonderry, N.H.) broke the tie with an RBI single scoring Burgio making it 2-1. Two batters later, freshman left fielder Ian Seawards (Dover, N.H.) gave the Owls a comfortable lead with a two-RBI single up the middle giving the Owls a 4-1 lead. "It's always great when the youngsters step up and make things happen," said Thiesing.

Relieving Thiesing, junior Tim Quagliaroli (Windsor Locks, Conn.) allowed a run in the seventh, but picked up his first save of the year for the 4-2 win.

McEwen went six innings allowing the four runs and eight hits in the losing effort for the Eagles.

The Owls return to action Monday, as they will face Daniel Webster at 3:30 p.m.
