BOSTON, MASS. 9/15/12 – The UMass-Boston women's soccer team did something on Saturday they've never done before – beat Keene State College.

The Beacons blanked the Owls 5-0 in the Little East Conference opener for both teams at the Clark Athletic Center in Boston.

Sam Cristoforo (Rockland, Mass.) scored the lone goal in the first half for UMass-Boston (6-0, 1-0 LEC), which tied a program record with its sixth straight win.  The Beacons added four more unanswered goals in the second half, including two by freshman Amanda Pugliese (Pembroke, Mass.), who also had two assists in the game.

It was the first win by UMass-Boston in 17 tries (15-1-1).  The Beacons are coached by former Owl All-America and assistant coach Amy Zombeck.

"Things aren't going our way," said KSC Coach Denise Lyons.  "We need to find a way to regroup and put the ball in the net."

It was the third game in a row the Owls (1-5, 0-1 LEC) have been shutout.  Keene State has dropped its last five games, a school record.

Keene State and UMass-Boston finished the game with 14 shots a piece while the Beacons had a 10-6 edge on shots on goal.
