Box Score

WORCESTER, MASS.  9/19/12 – The Keene State men's soccer team spread the offense around, getting goals from five different players in a 5-1 non-conference win on the road at Worcester State on Wednesday night.

Winners of four of their last five games, the Owls improve to 5-2.  Worcester State (1-5) dropped its third straight game.

"It was a very rough game, but we came out on top," said KSC Coach Ron Butcher.  "We had some nice through balls and guys finished tonight.  We're getting a little bit more consistent, but far from perfect."

Keene State jumped out to a 2-0 halftime lead.  Sophomore Michael Jacques (Tolland, Conn.) opened up the scoring with an unassisted goal at the 33:04 mark when he buried the ball into the left side of the net.

Junior Brian Swindell (Milford, Mass.) made it 2-0 six minutes later with his first career goal when he finished off a through ball from senior Kyle Leavitt (Plymouth, Mass.)

Keene State added three more goals in the second half.  Leavitt netted his first goal of the season when his shot went off the shoulder of a defender to make it 3-0.    Sophomore Brett Sullivan (Barrington, R.I.) and junior Bryce Lawlor (Woodbury, Conn.) followed with free kick goals 10 minutes apart to give the Owls a 5-0 lead.  It was the first goals of the season for both Sullivan and Lawlor.

Alex Goncalves scored the Lancers' long goal with 13 minutes to play.

Keene State outshot Worcester State 23-14.

Making his first start in goal since the Owls' opener against Nichols College, sophomore Mike Ketterman (Monson, Mass.) played the first 82:39 in goal and made four saves.  Seeing his first action between the pipes this season, freshman Mark Keller (Northborough, Mass.) didn't need to make a save in the final 7:21 of play.

Keene State hosts Southern Maine in a Little East Conference game on Saturday (1 p.m.).
