Keene State women snap skid, defeat Clark 4-1

Box Score

KEENE, N.H.  9/19/12 – Four different players found the back on the net for the Keene State College women's soccer team in its 4-1 non-conference victory over Clark University at Owl Athletic Complex on Wednesday night.

The victory snapped a program record five game losing streak and a three game scoring drought for Keene State (2-5).  It was the second straight loss for the Cougars (2-4-1).

"We had an intense practice on Monday and went over some quick plays for the offense and it showed tonight," said senior captain Brittany Croteau (Swanzey, N.H.), who picked up two assists in the game.  "We played the way we practiced."

Coming out with a lot of energy, the Owls got on the board three minutes into the game when junior Haley Kenyon (Exeter, R.I.) scored on a rebound.

Junior Kara Pavlidis (Lee, N.H.) had a chance to extend KSC's lead, but Clark junior back Afra Dania (Amherst, Mass.) made a nice defensive play knocking the ball away on Pavlidis' breakaway bid.

The Owls scored two more times in the half to take a 3-0 halftime lead.  Croteau got the first of her two assists, setting up Brittany Boscarino (Ellington, Conn.) on the left side for a goal to make it 2-0 at the 27:59 mark.  "We've had a rough time this season finding the back of the net," said Boscarino.  "We're definitely creating opportunities but not finishing them.  So it was really great for us to do that today."

Collecting a through ball from Croteau, junior Bev Cole (Madbuy, N.H.) went top shelf for her first college goals to give KSC a 3-0 lead.  "I made a run far side and Brittany played a great though ball and set me up," said Cole.  "We've had a couple of tough games where we haven't quite meshed together, but today it just came together."

Weaving through a pair of Clark defenders, junior Jessica Berthiaume (Worcester, Mass.) netted an unassisted goal, her second of the season, to push the Owls' lead to 4-0.

Sophomore Charlotte Mays (Melrose, Mass.) spoiled the Owls shutout bid when she dribbled in and beat KSC sophomore goalie Torrie Crenson (North Salem, N.Y.) with a shot to the corner of the net with 13:38 to play.

Controlling play for most of the game, KSC outshot Clark 18-5 and had a slim 5-4 advantage in corner kick chances.

Crenson finished the game with two saves for the Owls.  Freshman Gabby Paolini (North Patomic, Md.) stopped five shots for the Cougars.

Both teams return to conference play on Saturday.  The Owls travel to Southern Maine for a 1 p.m. Little East game.  Clark hosts MIT in a NEWMAC contest (12 p.m.)
