Box Score KEENE, N.H. 9/2513 - Senior Dillon Ventura (Pittstown,
N.J.) had two goals, including the game-winner at the 4:15 mark of
the second overtime period to give Babson College a
2-1 non-conference men's soccer victory over Keene State
College at Owl Athletic Complex on Wednesday night.
The Owls, who saw their modes two game winning streak come to an
end, drop to 2-6. Babson, which has won four of its last five
games, improves to 7-2.
Babson had the better of the scoring opportunities in the early
going. Senior Kevin Israel (Lafayette Hill, Pa.) had a couple
of chances to get the Beavers on the board. His first shot
off a corner was saved by KSC senior goalie Malcolm Cheney
(Hopkinton, Mass.) and his second bid went just wide of the
post.
Keene State picked up its play later in the first half.
With six minutes to go, senior Scott Douglas
(East Greenwich, R.I.) had a drive that just missed the far
post.
The Owls went on the offensive to start the second half. Senior
Bryce
Lawlor (Woodbury, Conn.) stepped up from his defensive position
with a couple of drives that almost found the back of the
net. Babson senior goalie Jackson Klein (Maplewood, N.J.)
went airborne to stop his second shot, tipping it over the cross
bar.
Douglas had a golden opportunity to give Keene State the lead at
the 31:44 mark. Taken down in the box, Douglas was awarded a
penalty kick. But Klein was up to the challenge, diving to
the left side to deny Douglas.
The Beavers finally broke through at the 31:03 mark.
Peppering the net with consecutive shots, Ventura scored on a
rebound to give Babson a 1-0 lead.
Senior Brian Swindell
(Milford, Mass.) had a chance to tie the game a minute later, but
Klein made a diving save to preserve Babson's lead.
Undeterred KSC finally tied the game with 6:03 to go when
Douglas, atoning for missing the PK, curled the ball into the far
corner of the net to tie the game.
KSC almost go the game-winner in the closing minute of
regulation. Scott sent a cross into the box, but Klein was able to
get a control of the ball with junior Michael
Jacques (Tolland, Conn.) standing on the
doorstep.
Babson got the game-winner on a counter attack in the second
overtime. Ventura's chip shot hit off the post and dropped into the
net.
Keene State had a slight 24-23 edge in shots.
Cheney finished the game with six saves. Klein stopped
nine shots for the Beavers.
The Beavers are now 7-3-3 all-time against Keene State and have
won six straight matches in the series going back to 2008.
Keene State is at Eastern Conn. State on Saturday for a key
Little East Conference game.
