Box Score PROVIDENCE, R.I. 9/25/13 – Senior Jessica Berthiaume's (Worcester, Mass.) goal at the 29:11 mark of the first half was the difference in Keene State College 1-0 non-conference women's soccer victory over Johnson and Wales University at the Scotts Miracle-Gro Outdoor Athletic Complex on Wednesday evening.
Winners of three straight, the Owls improve to 5-2-1. The Wildcats fall to 2-4-2.
After battling back and forth through the early stages of the first half, Keene State got the only goal of the game on a nice passing play by three seniors. Brittany Boscarino (Ellington, Conn.) took a corner kick and sent the ball into the box. Haley Kenyon (Exeter, R.I.) collected the loose ball and fed Berthiaume who blasted a shot into the corner of the net for her team leading fifth goal of the season.
Keene State made the lead stand-up the rest of the way to hold on for the victory. "We're not a very good turf team, so I'm happy that we were able to get the win," said KSC Coach Denise Lyons. We played hard and hard numerous other chances to score, but couldn't finish."
Sophomore Cassie Collins (Oswego, N.Y.) made seven stops for Johnson & Wales in the setback while junior Torrie Crenson (North Salem, N.Y.) had four saves to notch her third shutout of the season.
Keene State returns to Little East Conference play on Saturday when they host Eastern Conn. State at Owl Athletic Complex.
