Box Score FRAMINGHAM, MASS.9/4/13– Junior forward Marisa Parent (Revere, Mass.) tallied a hat trick as the Framingham State University women's soccer team defeated Keene State College 3-0 this afternoon in non-conference women's soccer action at Maple Street Field.
The victory is just the Rams third against the Owls in sixteen meetings. Framingham State is now 1-0 on the year, while the Owls even their record at 1-1.
"They wanted it more and came out fired out," said KSC Coach Denise Lyons.
The Rams staked themselves the early lead when Parent tallied her first marker of the season on what would prove to be the game winner. Parent took possession near midfield and carried through the defense before beating the Owl junior keeper Torrie Crenson (North Salem, N.Y.) with a low shot inside the far post in the fourth minute.
The game would head into the half with the Rams holding the slim lead, but the Owls offense came alive to begin the second frame. Senior Jessica Berthiaume (Worcester, Mass.) had a scoring chance on a header off a corner with just over 30 minutes remaining in the game, but FSU goalkeeper Sara Sullivan (Quincy, Mass.) came up with the save.
Parent tacked on a pair of insurance goals for the Rams less than a minute apart to seal the victory. In the 70th minute, she took a nice cross from senior Kayla Austin (Winchester, Mass.) and laid a shot in the net for her second game. At 70:54 she capped off the hat trick with an unassisted blast for the 3-0 advantage.
Sullivan secured her first victory and shutout of the season in net making nine stops, while Crenson made a pair stops in a losing effort for the Owls.
The Owls return to action on Saturday afternoon with a non-conference game at home against Endicott College (1:30 p.m.).
