Five Star Owls Rout Castleton State

Box Score

CASTLETON, Vt.--The Keene State College men's soccer team scored three times in a nine minute span in the second half as the Owls strolled to a 5-0 non-conference win over Castleton State College on Wednesday night.

KSC improves to 4-5 overall.  The Owls have now followed a loss with a win in each of the last six games.  The Spartans fall to 3-5-1.

The game was scoreless until the 50th minute, when Eddie Mercer's shot was blocked by a defender but fell straight to the feet of Conor Leahy, who made no mistake in scoring his team leading fifth goal of the season.

Five minutes later, the Owls doubled their advantage when Ben Reif finished off a scramble in front of the net for his first career collegiate goal.  Mercer made it 3-0 in the 59th minute when his shot from 20 yards out deflected off a defender and over the Castleton State 'keeper.

The Owls were not finished, as Brett Sullivan tacked on a fourth with a rocket from 25 yards out in the 69th minute.  Anuj Khadka capped the scoring with 15 minutes remaining by chipping the goalie - it was also his first collegiate goal.

Mark Keller was called upon to make four saves to pick up his first win in net for the Owls.

The Owls will return home to host Rhode Island College in a key Little East Conference game on Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m. at Owl Athletic Complex.  The Spartans will also be playing in New Hampshire, heading to Colby-Sawyer College for a North Atlantic Conference game on Saturday.
