Box Score KEENE, N.H.--Michael Jacques' third goal of the season lifted the Keene State College men's soccer team to a 1-1 draw with league leading UMass Boston in Little East Conference action at Owl Athletic Complex on Saturday.
The draw extends KSC's unbeaten streak to six, giving the Owls an 8-5-1 overall record, and a 2-2-1 mark in the LEC. The Beacons remain undefeated in LEC play, with a 4-0-1 conference record to go with a 10-4-1 overall mark.
Keene State nearly opened the scoring in the fifth minute when Conor Leahy found himself alone in space, but Beacons' goalie Alfonso Rosales got down to make the stop. Yazid Eidah was next to try his chance, but shot straight at Rosales in the ninth minute.
Two minutes later, the Beacons were in front. UMB was awarded a free kick just outside the penalty area, and Marcus Pizzetti's effort beat the wall and the goalie to the left side.
KSC responded with pressure, but Roseles turned away a shot by Eddie Mercer in the 31st minute and from Aidan Dean in the 43rd to keep the game 1-0 at halftime.
Six minutes after the break, the Owls were even. KSC was given a free kick of their own in the 52nd minute, and Brett Sullivan's delivery was headed down by Leahy. Rosales could not hold on to the ball, and Jacques was on the spot to tap in from point blank range.
The teams traded scoring chances in the next five minutes, as Cam Rogers whistled a shot wide for the Owls, and Elton Teixeira rattled the crossbar in the 57th minute.
Mike Ketterman, who came on to start the second half for the Owls, kept the game at 1-1 with several fantastic saves, including stops on Rolando Barbosa in the in the 69th minute, and again on Luis Mattos in the 77th.
Keene State was reduced to 10 men when Dylan Bisceglia received his second yellow card with two seconds remaining in regulation, but despite being down a man in overtime, the Owls held firm to preserve the draw.
Ketterman came to the Owls' rescue early in the second overtime, making a spectacular reaction save on Mattos' scissor kick effort. Rogers had the Owls final chance, sending a shot wide in the 109th minute as the game ended in a 1-1 draw.
It was the first ever tie in the 19 games played between the two schools. Rosales finished with five saves in the Beacons' net. Ketterman finished with six stops. Mark Keller started the game for the Owls, and did not make a save in the first half.
Keene State is back in action against Springfield College on Tuesday, October 21, at 7 p.m. UMass Boston travels to Worcester State for a 7 p.m. kickoff on October 22.
