Tolla's Late Goal Lifts KSC Past Worcester State

Box Score

KEENE, N.H.--Brittany Tolla's goal in the 87th minute boosted the Keene State College women's soccer team to a 2-1, come-from-behind-win over Worcester State University in non-conference play on Wednesday night.

The Owls won for the second consecutive game, moving to 7-6 overall.  Worcester State lost for the second time in three games and is now 8-3 on the season.  It was the 11th game this season that has been decided by one goal.

The first half saw Keene State create most of the chances, as Taylor Farland forced a palm save off of Worcester State goalie Jillian Witkowski in the 34th minute.  Just before the end of the half, substitute Kali Santino had a headed attempt on goal, but Witkowski was there to make the save.

In the 60th minute, the Lancers opened the scoring.  Kendall Bergenholtz raced down the right hand side and delivered a cross for a Alyssa Sawyer to slot in from close range.

Seven minutes later, the Owls were level through a pair of freshmen.  Morgan Kathan, playing in just her second game of the year, got past the Lancer defense, and set up classmate Shannon Hart for her first career goal.

From there, the Owls pressed on for the winner.  Shannon Summers worked some space on the right side of the goal, but her shot trickled wide at the far post.

With three minutes to go, KSC went in front.  Tolla's shot from 20 yards was too hot for Witkowski, deflecting off her gloves and into the roof of the net for Tolla's first goal of the season and third career game winning goal.

"I saw I had some space on the outside," said Tolla.  "Coach told me to stay outside and make people work, and I saw I had the shot."

Torrie Crenson played the first half in goal for the Owls, making two saves.  Dannielle Warhall played the second half to earn the win without making a save.  Witkowski made five stops for Worcester State.

The Owls will look to add their win streak with a home tilt against UMass Dartmouth on Saturday, October 11 at 1 p.m.  Worcester State travels to Mass. Maritime for a 7 p.m. kickoff on October 10.
