Box Score KEENE, N.H.--Keene State scored twice in each half to breeze to a 4-0 win over UMass Dartmouth in the quarterfinal round of the 2014 Little East Conference tournament at Owl Athletic Complex on Tuesday night.
Keene State advances to the semifinals of the LEC tournament where the Owls will face top seeded Western Connecticut State University on Thursday night. The Owls are now 13-8 overall. KSC defeated WCSU 1-0 in double-overtime on October 25.
The Corsairs see their season come to an end with a record of 8-10-1.
KSC scored twice in the first 10 minutes to take command of the game. UMass Dartmouth failed to deal with a loose ball in the penalty box, and it fell to the feet of Brittany Tolla, who knocked in her third of the year to put KSC in front. Two minutes later, KSC had doubled the advantage when Beverly Cole latched onto a through ball from Alex Haley, and danced her way though the Corsair defense before scoring her third of the season.
The KSC defense, meanwhile, was limiting the Corsairs to few opportunities. UMD's first shot on goal did not come until the 55th minute when Maura Gonsalves' shot was saved by Torrie Crenson.
Taylor Farland made it 3-0 in the 63 minute. Alex Haley found Kali Santino on the left wing, and Santino's deft flick played in Farland, who rounded UMD goalie Nicole Butts to score her 11th of the year.
Shannon Summers tacked on a fourth with less than two minutes to go when she scrambled in another loose ball on the box after passes from Julia Pearson and Morgan Kathan.
Crenson made just the one save in the KSC net. Butts made four stops for UMD.
Thursday's meeting will be the first in the postseason between the Owls and the Colonials since 2010, where WCSU beat the Owls 1-0 to advance to the LEC title game. KSC last beat the Colonials in the 2009 postseason, with a 2-0 semifinal win.
