Box Score BOSTON, Mass.--Edmilson Barros headed in the game winning goal with 2:06 remaining in double-overtime to lead UMass Boston to a 2-1 victory over Keene State College in the championship game of the Little East Conference men's soccer tournament on Saturday afternoon.
The Beacons, (14-5-2) who were the regular season LEC Champions, win the LEC tournament for the first time in school history, and will receive the league's automatic bid to the NCAA tournament. Keene State, which was making its first appearance in the LEC title game since 2011, see the season come to an end with a record of 12-7-1.
The Owls had taken a lead in the 11th minute of the game when Kaleb Lique-Naitove scored his second goal in as many games, a volley from the top of the box that beat UMB keeper Alfonso Rosales.
Silveira answered back in the 24th minute with the equaliser, dribbling past a pair of defenders and scoring his fifth of the season.
Keene State nearly won the game with less than 10 minutes to go, as Cam Rogers got above the Beacons' defense, but Rosales made a diving save to keep the scores level. Aidan Dean's headed effort was just wide in the final minute.
KSC goalie Mike Ketterman made a fantastic save on Silveira in the fourth minute of overtime; with the Beacons bearing down in a two-on-none, Ketterman somehow got fingertips on Silveira's effort to keep the game tied.
The game looked to be headed to a penalty shootout until UMass Boston was awarded a corner kick with just over two minutes remaining. Douglas Silveria swung in the corner and Barros thumped a header for the game winner.
Keene State was making its 10th appearance in the LEC title game. The Owls return 22 players from this years team, which rebounded from the first 0-2 LEC start in school history to reach the conference title game.
