Box Score AUBURNDALE, Fla.--Cody Dube tossed a complete game and knocked in a run as the Keene State College baseball team won their third game in four with a 2-1 win over Western New England University on Thursday.
KSC evens up their record at 4-4.
Joe Libby was 3-for-4 with, while Andrew Gummow and Andy Johnson each had a pair of hits for KSC.
KSC plated both runs in the sixth inning. Gummow led off with a single, and moved up to third on Andy Johnson's double. Dube broke the scoreless tie with a fielder's choice, bringing Gummow across the plate and moving Johnson to third. Tanner Chase provided an insurance run with a sacrifice fly to left, and it proved important, as the Golden Bears grabbed a run in the top of the ninth.
Steve Ambrosino led off with a triple, and the Owls traded an out for a run when Steve Buckley grounded out to shortstop to bring in Ambrosino. Dube limited any further damage by getting Matt Anziano to ground out to second and Daniel Morin to ground out to short.
Dube was excellent in pitching KSC's first complete game of the season. The sophomore got out of a jam in the first inning with a runner on third by getting Steve Buckley to fly out to center, and again in the fifth, getting Kevin Marciano to ground into a 6-3 double play with runners on first and third.
Ambrosino's triple was the only extra base hit Western New England could muster against Dube, who picked up his first win of the year.
"Cody located his pitches exceptionally well today," said Keene State coach Ken Howe. "He had complete command of all of his pitches and located them where he needed to."
The Owls continue play in the Sunshine State with a game against Denison (Ohio) at 12:30 pm on March 21.
