Box Score KEENE, N.H.--A furious rally came up short as the Keene State College baseball team fell in a Little East Conference game to long time rival Plymouth State University 4-3 on Friday afternoon at Owl Athletic Complex. The game was being played after being originally scheduled for Tuesday.
The Owls are 6-14, and 1-6 in the LEC. Plymouth State is 14-11, with a 2-5 mark against LEC opposition.
After spotting the Owls a 4-0 lead through seven innings, KSC began the comeback with a two run eighth inning. Billy Hartmann led off with a double to left field. PSU reliever Zach Cogswell struck out Joe Libby and got Matt Boulay to foul out to first base, but Nick Vita smoked a 2-out double to center to bring in Hartmann and get KSC on the board. Cody Dube followed up with a single through the right side to bring in Vita and halve the deficit.
The Panthers brought in closer Ryan Wakefield, who immediately put a runner on when Brett Dootson reached on Wakefield's throwing error. Dootson moved all the way to third on Vinny Parilla's single to right, and Parilla stole second to put the tying run in scoring position.
After Tanner Chase popped out to short, Hartmann made it a 4-3 game with a right field single to bring in Dootson, and Libby walked to load the bases with one out. Wakefield retired Boulay on a foul out to the catcher, and struck out Vita swinging to end the game.
Plymouth State had taken a 1-0 lead when Paul Reny reached on an error and scored on Jake Broom's single to center, and added three more in the top of the sixth. Brook drew a two out walk, and took second on a single up the middle from Justin Walsh. Third baseman Dave Hall doubled to right to plate Broom, and Brian Thompson singled in a pair of runs to make it 4-0.
