Box Score MEDFORD, Mass.--Joe Libby hit his second home run of the season, but it was not enough as the Keene State College baseball team fell to Tufts University, 10-6, in a non-conference game on Wednesday afternoon.
The Owls (4-7) were playing for the first time since March 22, and playing their first game back in New England. Tufts improves to 14-1.
Libby had three hits, drove in three runs, and scored once. Cody Dube and Tanner Chase also had a pair of hits each. KSC outhit Tufts 12-9.
Keith Simpson, Jake Ciolfi, Jeff Lunn, Alex Fiste, Shawn Egan, Stephen Costello, Nate Pedersen, Eddie Dionne, Vinnie Mangiagli, and Dube all saw time on the hill for KSC.
After Tufts scored single runs in the second and third innings, Keene State roared back with five runs in the top of the fourth. Three straight hits from Brett Dootson, Matt Boulay, and Tanner Chase loaded the bases, and an error by the Tufts shortstop brought in Dootson and Boulay to tie the game. Libby smacked his second home run to give Keene State a 5-2 lead.
Tufts took the lead back in the bottom half of the inning. A double, walk, and bunt single loaded the bases, and Tom Petry brought in all three runners with a double to right-center. The Jumbos added two more runs on a wild pitch and an RBI single from Matt Frescia. Tufts tacked on three more runs in the sixth on an error and a passed ball.
Keene State added another run in the eighth. Joe Cortese hit a leadoff single and moved to second base on Chase's groundout. Hartmann singled through the right side to trim the lead to 10-6.
The Owls will travel to Framingham State for a 3:30 start on Wednesday. Tufts will host Colby-Sawyer in a doubleheader in April 5.
