Owls struggle at the plate, fall 11-1 to Framingham

Framingham, Mass. – Framingham State scored 11 runs on eight hits as the Owls (4-8) fell 11-1 to the Rams (8-8) on the road Thursday night.

Wardwell led the Rams' offense with his two hits, five RBI and a run scored, while freshman Manny Powers was 2-for-3 with three runs scored and two RBI.

The Rams grabbed the early lead with four runs in the bottom of the third inning as they strung together four hits to open the frame. They batted around in the bottom of the fourth extending their lead to 9-0. Powers drove in a run with an RBI single to right, while Jake Wardwell and sophomore R.J. Gray drove two runs apiece on singles to center and right.

Keene State finally had the opportunity to make a mark in the game in the fifth inning. Junior Tanner Chase and senior Nick Vita both reached when they were hit by a pitch. Cody Dube reached base on an error and loaded the bases, but the Owls ended the inning on a strikeout.

The Rams tacked on two more in the sixth.

Keene State got on the board in the top of the eighth inning. A walk, a single to right from pinch hitter Dustin Howe and a hit batter loaded the bases with two outs. Freshman Austin Mariano worked a bases loaded walk to account for the Owls only run.

The Owls open Little East play with a doubleheader at Eastern Connecticut with the first pitch at noon.

The Rams are back in action on Saturday afternoon with a MASCAC double-header against Fitchburg State slated to begin at Bowditch Field at 1 p.m.
