Promise You Will: Kpee Nets Debut Winner

Box Score

KEENE, N.H.--A pair of second half goals lifted the Keene State College men's soccer team to a 3-1 victory over Lasell College in the season opening Keene State College soccer classic on Saturday afternoon.

The Owls, playing their first game under new head coach Rick Scott, came back from a goal down to pick up the win.

It was the Lasers who struck first, with 10 minutes to go before halftime.  Caique Reginaldo swept a low cross in front of goal, and Conor Fitzgerald was on hand to poke it home.

The Owls struck back just before halftime.  KSC was awarded a free kick on the left side, and Yazid Eidah's delivery was powerfully headed home by Cam Rogers with 17 ticks on the clock in the first half.

KSC got the game winner in the 75th minute.  Brett Sullivan played in Promise Kpee with a through ball, and the freshman controlled on the turn before beating Lasell goalie Miguel Colmenares to the far post.

Keene State salted away the win with an insurance goal four minutes later.  Samuel Binogono's shot was parried by Colmenares, but straight to the feet of Conor Leahy, who scrambled home KSC's third.

"I was a little nervous," said Kpee.  "We've had some scrimmages, but once I got on the field I knew I cold do this.  It's a great feeling."

KSC goalie Mike Ketterman made four saves in net, while Colemenares made six.  The Owls outshot the Lasers 17-8.

Keene State will play Brandeis in the second game of the tournament on Sunday. The Judges scored five goals in the second half for a 5-0 win over Hobart College.   The Statesmen will play Lasell at 11:30, a change in start time due to potential inclement weather.
