Box Score KEENE, N.H.--No. 17 Brandeis University got the game winning goal with 10 minutes remaining in a 2-1 victory over host Keene State College on the second day of the Keene State Soccer Classic.
Brandeis is now 2-0 on the season, while KSC dips to 1-1.
The Judges opened the scoring in the 18th minute. Tournament MVP Michael Soboff slipped in to score his third goal in two games off a pass from Mike Lynch.
A pair of substitutions got the Owls back in the game. Cam Rogers and Ian Downing combined to bring the Owls level - Kaleb Lique-Naitove floated in a free kick, which Downing headed back across goal for Rogers to turn in for his second goal of the season in the 32nd minute.
Brandeis nearly went back in front five minutes before halftime but a diving, fingertip save by Michael Ketterman kept the score even at the break.
Soboff had a couple chances to add to his goal scoring tally, but fired over the crossbar in the 77th minute and wide a minute later.
Brandeis went in front for good in the 80th minute. The Judges were awarded a free kick on the left side of the box, and Josh Ocel's effort flew past everyone at the far post.
Ketterman made four saves for KSC, while Joe Graffy was called upon to make three stops. Graffy was named the Defensive Player of the Tournament, while Promise Kpee was named the Offensive Player. In the day's earlier game, Hobart toppled Lasell by a 5-0 score.
Keene State will be back in action on September 6, hosting Wheaton College (Mass.) at Owl Athletic Complex at 1 p.m. Brandeis hosts Bridgewater State at 4 p.m. on the same day.
